i must confes coming accros your extensive work and profound knowledge was [is] somewhat confronting because i am more of an intuitive sort of a person, my entree has been through music and singing and in stead of learning from the book i hoped for direct experience [....]
as far as my question concerns : i tend to see the divine realm [gods angels spirits] as universal and as truth so i tend to compare systems of cosmology and resently seached for a link between astrology and orisha's but up till now i found info which is not coherend at all
is there traditionally a practice of "calculating a birthchart" ? [i don't mean : divining the future but calculating the birthchart for analysing the character of a person : is this like finding which orish is the personal companion of a person ?] i know there is an oracle in ifá for consulting the orisha's
anyway : this is perhaps more than one question
i am interested to know your insite on the matter

Hi Abdel, I compare and try to understand all kind of ancient cultures and traditions as well. Not to copy, but the studies sometimes give insights about universal principles.
Regarding astrology - there is no direct link to Orisha. In fact they are quite different from the concept. Astrology - from the beginnings of spiritual searches - was the trial to find something outside that tells something about the inside and about the future to come, to be expected. So the stars where the most stable system to anchor spirituality to. Orishas have nothing to do with prediction, they are forces of nature and some of them are part of you. So it is an inside out view - but connected to the world. So, say, Oshun, simplifying as love, is a universal principle that we all have insight us. So we are all somehow Orishá, aspects of them. Understandings someone's aspects, harmonising them, will allow a deeper balance and understanding of someones being, behaviour, etc.
Ifá knows Odu, and the LIVE ODUS are somehow similar to birth based astrology. But rather like a bible - knowing your Odu, you will understand patterns of your life, derive recommendations, etc. And combined with Orisha you will know how to walk your path best. The good aspect in Ifá is that you can to a certain extend "manipulate" your essence, your path so that you can walk with more clarity and more stable. Ashé
